Dr. Satyanarayana V. Nandury, Chief Scientist, CSIR-lndian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-llCT), Hyderabad, is presently Chairing the Energy & Environment Cluster of the Institute. In addition, he is looking after the Business development activities of Institute and also mentoring the business development group of CSIR-1 ICT.
Dr. Satyanarayana obtained PhD in Computer Science & Engineering from llT Kharagpur, and MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur. He worked for close to 20 years in CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, where he was heading the Super Computer Facility for Process Simulation, Modeling & Automation. The real-time process simulators developed by him and his group at CSIR-NML were successfully commissioned in Iron & steel and Ferroalloy industries like Tata Steel, Bokoro Steel Plant, Nav Bharat Ventures etc. One of the technologies developed by his group in material characterization at CSIR-NML, has received the Dr. Altekar Best Technology award.
Dr. Satyanarayana participated in the Indian Scientific Expedition team to Antarctica in 1997, to commission the computer interface gadgets designed & developed by him to automate the equipment for upper atmosphere studies.
Dr. Satyanarayana was actively involved in academic activities of AcSIR, a University created by CSIR through an act of parliament activities, during its inception and is the among the few scientists who prepared some of the draft documents and policy guidelines. He also served as the Coordinator of AcSIR at CSIR-llCT.
Three of Dr. Satyanarayana's research publications received best paper awards. In addition to research publications, Dr. Satyanarayana was involved in the preparation of several reports for Cll (Confederation of Indian Industries), CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research), ASCI Hyderabad, GoAP and GoTS. He is a member of several committees of CSIR, Cll, DIPP (Department of Industry Policy & Promotion), Nanotechnology Mission, DST, Central Paper & Pulp Research Institute, MSME Development Institute. He is a visiting faculty to several institutions like ASCI, ESCI, NITs, etc. He is also an advisor to few educational Institutes .
During the last seven years Dr. Satyanarayana has been working towards promoting the R&D activities of CSIR-1ICT and for developing and nurturing start-ups and incubation centers. He is presently the Secretary of the Society for Biotechnology Incubation Centre, an incubation centre established by the Department of BioTechnology, the then state Government of AP and CSIR-llCT at Genome Valley, Hyderabad. Presently, he is working on a project supported by BlRAC for establishing Advanced Analytical & Characterization Resource Facility for the biotech industry in Genome Valley, Hyderabad.
Dr. Satyanarayana is a professor in two faculties viz. i) Engineering Sciences and ii) Mathematical & Information Sciences, of AcSIR, a university promoted by CSIR and created through the act of parliament. His present area of research includes Wireless sensor networks, smart cities, real-time systems and systems integration and Bigdata analytics. One of his students obtained PhD from Ranchi University. He is presently guiding four research students for their PhD, who are registered under AcS IR and JNTU.
